Women with large breasts are forced to suffer problems with their shoulders and back as well as difficulty in dressing and wearing fashions which all seem to be designed for slender, small figured women. Breast reduction surgery is designed to lift and reduce the size of your breasts to a size more appropriate to your body, while producing a more attractive shape. Any assymetry existing prior to your surgery will persist afterwards, but this will be discussed with you prior to your surgery.
Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and involves reducing the size of the the breast gland itself, decreasing the size of the skin "pocket" containing the breast gland and then repositioning the nipple to a higher location.
Recovery from this type of surgery varies from patient to patient but most patients spend 2-3 nights in hospital depending on drainage from the wounds and individual needs or complications. We recommend that you take at least 10 days off work to recover from the effects of surgery and then non-strenuous activities can be resumed. Lifting and stretching as well as gym activities can be resumed after 4 weeks.
