Our eyes are the first thing that people relate to, but unfortunately eyes are the first things which show the signs of ageing in both men and women. Blepharoplasty is the medical term for eyelid surgery, a simple and safe procedure which can dramatically decrease visible signs of ageing. Skin on both upper and lower lids can be reduced to produce a more youthful look.
Under a general anaesthetic, skin and fat in your eyelids is removed. Post-operatively, icepacks are applied to reduce swelling and most patients go home after a few hours. The amount of bruising varies from patient to patient and generally lasts 5-10 days.
This is a day only procedure but we advise patients to take it easy for 2-3 days to allow recovery and reduce the chance of bleeding. Sutures are removed usually 4-5 days following surgery, and most patients feel that they can return to work then. Full activity can be resumed after 2 weeks.
