Genital Surgery - Female
Labioplasty

Some women seek surgery to the labia minora due to their size causing irritation during intercourse or extreme discomfort when wearing tight clothing. Repeated thrush infections can also be associated with large labia minora. Very occasionally, women seek an opinion regarding surgery of the outer lips (labia majora).

The surgery to reduce the size and re-shape the labia minora is done under a general anaesthetic as a day only patient. The position of the scar on the labia will be discussed at length with you at the time of consultation. Dissolving sutures are used and the wound will heal over a period of the next 4-6 weeks. Intercourse must be avoided for 4 weeks post-operatively. Most women can return to work 2-3 days following surgery.

Clitoral Hypertrophy

Dr Haertsch also deals with the problem of an enlarged clitoris and is happy to discuss the matter and show photographs of what can be achieved.

Vaginal Tightening

Particularly as a result of childbirth, some women feel they could be a little tighter at the vaginal orifice. Following a manual examination, Dr Haertsch will discuss what can be achieved and if surgery is appropriate.

Hymen Reconstuction

For cultural reasons some women wish to have reconstruction of the hymen. Following examination, Dr Haertsch is happy to discuss the type of repair to be performed in each individual case.
