Rhinoplasty

Whether it be the result of an accident or due to inheritance, we are sometimes unhappy with the shape of our nose. A rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery provides a safe and permanent way to change that shape whether it be a problem with the profile, the tip or the width of the nose, or the appearance of the nostrils.

Under a general anaesthetic, tiny incisions are made inside the nose to allow access for tiny instruments which re-shape and refine the bones and cartilage of your nose. Occasionally, some external excisions are required but this will be discussed with you at the time of consultation. A pack is inserted into both nostrils and is removed after 24 hours, although a "stuffed up" feeling may remain due to the swelling which will resolve over 4-6 weeks. A splint on the nose stays in place to support the new shape for 5-7 days.

We recommend planning to have 1-2 weeks off work to recover from the anaesthetic and to allow the worst of any bruising and swelling to settle. No sporting activity should be undertaken for at least a month.
